We’re thrilled to announce that the MEG Phycotrone has been selected to ADI Design Index 2020, the best Italian design of the year.
Developed over the past three years by MEG and Politecnico di Torino, the Phycotrone is a controlled microalgae growth platform for R&D.
Microalgae are sustainable and profitable bio-products used in numerous markets ranging from biofuels to cosmetics. However, of the thousands of existing species, less than a dozen have been exploited in industrial production so far. Phycotrone carries out algal growth sequences under multiple conditions, returning data and information that is critical for the industrial scalability of production processes. High energy efficiency and excellent carbon dioxide bio-fixation are the cornerstones of the technology, facilitated by a compact shape and an intuitive interface design for the operator. The high variability of growth parameters makes it an excellent tool for exploring the new frontiers of augmented photobiology.
MEG is the result of our long-lasting, close collaboration with lighting design firm D’Alesio&Santoro.
ADI Design Index celebrates the best Italian design every year. It is awarded by ADI, the Italian association for industrial design.
Congratulations to the entire team!
