30 years ago ABB SACE Megamax F won the Compasso d’Oro. Today, on it’s 30th anniversary, the switch remains an icon of design and functionality.
ABB SACE Megamax F, low voltage circuit-breaker launched on the international market in 1990. Today, it’s on display at the ADI Design Museum as one of the icons of industrial design, Made in Italy.
When SACE Megamax F was introduced, for the first time, a high-performance switch of this type made it possible to monitor the wear of the contacts, the number of operations and the electrical parameters, an important novelty in the early 1990s.
The big difference, compared to other switches on the market at the time,
was the attention to the design aspect – both in terms of ease of use for the users of the product, and when it comes to applying design to build a brand in the sector.
Currently the SACE Megamax F is no longer marketed, but thanks to the new technologies in the field of circular economy, it can be replaced by a new product, for example the equally award-winning Emax 2, his successor, without having to replace the entire system.
